sound volume after boot

Sound volume after boot

On my system (Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi, beta driver ver. 5.12.14.1144) sound volume is set to maximum on Vista boot so "Windows startup" melody is played very loudly. Vista doesn't remember volume setting as WinXP does.
Do you experience the same problem? Is it issue of Vista or issue of SB X-Fi driver?
Viktor

I didn't notice this problem, but as a habit I always disable all the unneeded services and programs that Creatives drivers install along with the base driver.
After the first boot I disabled CTHelper, CTXfiHlp and CTXFIREG.
I enabled all three and had the same problem you do. When I reverted back to having these turned off, the problem went away. I'm assuming it's a but in CTHelper or CTXfiHlp since I'm pretty sure CTXFIREG is the reminder to register the product, but I could be wrong.
Everything works just fine without these programs running in the background, and the volume problem goes away. I don't have time at the moment to try each one individually, so if you do figure out exactly what one is doing it I'm sure others would appreaciate a post. :-)
You can easily disable (don't REMOVE, just in case) them using Windows Defender; Tools; Software Explorer. They are clearly listed under the heading Creative Technology Ltd.
Hope this helps, Mic
